Use the Buenos Días song to help you learn some useful language for the beginning of the lesson. You can see the lyrics in English and Spanish below.
¿De dónde eres? Where are you from? Soy de... I am from...
Using verbs in Spanish
In Spanish, you have to use the right part of the verb depending on who you are talking about. This is the same as in English. For example, you can't say "she am"; you have you say "she is". In Spanish, it is all about the ending of the verb.
So when we want to say where we are from we say "soy de" Because "de" means "from". If we want to say our nationality, we can just say "soy". E.g. I am English = soy inglés.
However, nationalities (like French, Spanish, English, Australian, Nigerian etc) are different for a girl and for a boy... What happens to nationalities that end in an "o" in the masculine form? What happens to nationalities that end in a consonant in the masculine form? What happens to nationalities that end in an "e" in the masculine form?
And here's another verb. It's vivir = to live. This time, it's a regular verb. That means the endings follow a pattern. Most verbs that end in "ir" have the same endings, just like "vivir". So if you learn the green endings of vivir, you'll never have to learn another "ir" verb again!
You can use "vivir" to answer the question ¿Dónde vives? (where do you live?). Vivo en Londres (I live in London)
You can use the verb below to answer the following question.
¿Qué idiomas hablas? What languages do you speak?
Describing Myself You will be able to answer the question ¿Cómo eres? What are you like?
